New World Screwworm has moved into the United States after more than a year of traveling north through Mexico. North Carolina veterinarians, RVTs, and other animal care workers are a first line of defense against this deadly, zoonotic invasive species to protect not only pets and people, but the state’s livestock industry.
In July, experts from the NCDA&CS Office of the State Veterinarian and NC State College of Veterinary Medicine presented an overview of the current NWS outbreak along with case studies of what veterinarians need to know to be the first line of defense against this deadly, zoonotic invasive species.
