About Sabrina Frerichs, PharmD

Dr. Sabrina Frerichs is a Clinical Veterinary Pharmacist where she plays a pivotal role in advancing clinical services, mentoring students, and contributing to the evolution of veterinary pharmacy as a profession. Dr. Frerichs earned her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Chemistry and Biology with a specialization in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Loyola University Maryland.
She went on to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was inducted into multiple academic honor societies. During pharmacy school, she developed a strong foundation in sterile compounding through her work at Duke University Hospital. She also contributed to meaningful research at the Johns Hopkins Behavioral Medicine Lab and co-authored several publications.
Her interest in veterinary pharmacy began during a clinical rotation at UNC under the mentorship of Dr. Natalie Young. Recognizing her outstanding clinical skills, professionalism, and collaborative spirit, Dr. Young invited her to complete the Clinical Veterinary Pharmacy Internship program, which she completed with distinction. In 2024, Sabrina was selected as the inaugural resident of the UNC Veterinary Pharmacy Residency Program, the first program of its kind.
Designed in partnership with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and Vets Pets, the program is committed to preparing innovative pharmacists for leadership in community-based veterinary care. When a position opened to join Companion Pharmacy’s team permanently, both UNC and Vets Pets were thrilled to welcome her into the profession full time. Now a key member of the Companion Pharmacy team, Dr. Frerichs works alongside Dr. Young to grow the clinical pharmacy program, support future residents, and continue expanding the role of pharmacists in veterinary medicine. She remains committed to pushing the profession into new and meaningful territory.
