Disaster Relief Grants
Rebuilding Veterinary Communities
When catastrophic events impact veterinary practices, whole communities suffer. The NCVMA offers assistance to members and communities affected by natural disasters through Member Grants and the Friends of the NCVMA Foundation.

We help veterinarians rebuild & recover after catastrophic events.
Member Grants
Our Member Grant Program helps NCVMA members who own a practice (hospital or mobile unit) affected by a catastrophic event to fill gaps in insurance coverage and satisfy deductibles.
NOTE: Funding for these grants comes from NCVMA dues and is available to NCVMA members only.
Who Can Apply for Member Grants?
- The applicant must be a current NCVMA member for at least three weeks before the event and the owner or part-owner of the affected practice.
- Associate veterinarians may not apply.
- Up to $5,000 in funds must be used to cover the insurance deductible for repairing the practice facility or replacing supplies.
- Only one grant may be used per practice in a twelve-month period.
How to Apply
- Complete the NCVMA Disaster Relief Grant Application in the member portal.
- Funds will be disbursed promptly to help our members in need.
- A copy of the insurance claim/explanation of payment and policy must be submitted along with the application, and applications must be submitted within four months of the event.
Friends of the NCVMA Grants
These grants support broad community access to veterinary care in the aftermath of a disaster. You do not have to be a member to apply.

Friends of the NCVMA Grants are made possible by donations received in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Funding is open to anyone in the veterinary community who lives or works in a county named as a FEMA disaster area, as well as practices impacted by Potential Cyclone 8.
These grants are intended to help the veterinary community recover from natural disasters and continue to serve their communities. Monies collected and designated for disaster relief will be divided between veterinary community grants, practice grants, and select animal welfare projects. Grants will be available until dispersed.
