Poultry owners are advised to follow strict biosecurity measures for at least the next 30 days. All bird owners are advised to keep their birds in an enclosed environment and monitor any signs of HPAI in their flock.
According to the NC DofAg, “This type of HPAI virus is considered a low risk to people according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, but it can be dangerous to other birds, including commercial and backyard flocks of poultry. HPAI is also not a food safety issue.”
